Macritichie Reservoir Park is conveniently located and connected with public transport (bus and train). The nearest train station is Caldecott MRT station and Marymount MRT station. There are several public buses that alight in front of the park which include Bus No. 52, 74, 93, 130, 132, 156, 157, 162, 165, 166, 167, 852, 855, and 980.

History of Macritchie Reservoir

With the growing number of population of Singapore during the 1870’s, Macritchie Reservoir was built. Macritchie Reservoir was the first reservoir constructed to serve as the water supply system.

Macritichie nature trails provide good hiking activity for individuals who want to explore and enter the jungle. There are several trails, loops, and access points for visitors to discover that cater to longer or shorter hikes. The tall standing trees serve as good shade against the sun while hiking the trails. While hiking into the woods, one can see wild animals such as monkeys, boars, or even snakes.

TREE-TOP WALK

When visiting Macrtichie Reservoir, one must cross the Tree-Top Walk. The TreeTop Walk is a suspension bridge that allows visitors to walk on top of the treetops forest. The 250-meter-long walkway connects the two peaks in the Macritchie jungle. While crossing the bridge, visitors also can check the view of the Upper Peirce Reservoir and the golf course located from afar.

Jelutong Tower is located in the middle of the Macritchie Trail, where visitors can climb and explore the view from the top. Once on top of the tower visitors can check the 360 degrees view of the horizon with tall standing trees above the ground. The tower is made of up steel and its staircase is in the form of a spiral which makes it a bit challenging. From here visitors can also take a glimpse of the reservoir and building structures of HDBs around the Bishan area.

Visitors who are interested in water sports activities can try to take the kayaking around the reservoir. Kayak rentals are available for a single or double person with starts at the rate of $15/hr.

After covering over 10 km distance of walking, we can say that Macritichie Reservoir Park is a great place for hiking while enjoying the presence of the natural environment. During our hike, we had a great time that we did not realize we have covered for 10 km. Also while walking along the boardwalk we witness the beautiful and scenic view of the reservoir.
