Yes. Housewives are eligible to apply for a Japan tourist visa in the Philippines even without employment.

Who Can Sponsor Your Trip to Japan?

If you have no personal income, you may apply with a financial sponsor such as your husband or another immediate family member, provided the required supporting documents are submitted.

Japan Tourist Visa Requirements for Housewife

Japan Tourist Visa Application in the Philippines for Housewife is quite as simple process as long as you have comply and provide all the necessary requirements. Here I have personally applied for Japan Tourist Visa in the Philippines, and I have shared below the steps on how to obtain the Japan Tourist Visa.

A. Required Documents from the Applicant

When applying for a Japan tourist visa as a housewife in the Philippines, applicant must submit the required documents to support your application. Even if your trip is sponsored by your spouse or another family member, applicant are still responsible for providing your personal documents along with any additional requirements requested by the accredited travel agency or the Embassy of Japan.

  1. Valid Philippine Passport
  2. Photocopy of Passport Bio Page
  3. Completed Visa Application Form
  4. Recent Passport-Sized Photo 
  5. PSA Issued Birth Certificate 
  6. PSA Issued Marriage Certificate
  7. Bank Certificate

A1. Valid Philippine PASSPORT

Japan Tourist Visa Applicaiton for Philippine Passport in Singapore

The first requirement for Japan visa application is the Philippine passport, I have written below the basic criteria for the Philippine passport;

  • Philippine Passport must have at least six (6) months validity prior to the intended departure date.
  • Philippine passport should have two (2) blank pages for the purpose of the visa to be stick once approved.

A2. Japan TOURIST VISA APPLICATION FORM

Japan Visa application form is available on Embassy of Japan in the Philippines Website, and sample visa application form is also available for reference. Once you have downloaded the form, fill-up all the required information in block letter, and enter N/A to information where it is not applicable.

For the other name section I have entered my maiden name on it, also government issued ID’s like SSS, Driver License, are required to enter on the form.

Since my husband will be sponsoring part of this travel, I have entered all his necessary information under the Guarantor or reference in Japan section. Likewise if you have family or friend who are staying in Japan who are inviting you to visit, enter all required information under Invite in Japan section. After you have completed all necessary information, print and sign the application form. By the way here is the sample form that I have created for Japan tourist visa application.

A3. PASSPORT-SIZED PHOTO

Visit to any nearest photo studio and inform that you want to obtain a Japan visa photo. Since most of the photo/studio shops have the idea on the photo size for Japan visa. Just in case below are the detailed requirement for the Japan photo visa.

  • A recent color photo taken within six (6) months
  • Facial photo size must be 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm
  • The photo must be in full-faced, front facing with white/light background 

A4. PSA ISSUED BIRTH AND MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE

Visit to the nearest PSA (Philippine Statistics Authority) to obtain the latest copy of your Birth and Marriage Certificate. Below are the necessary requirement for the PSA certificate.

  • Both Birth and Marriage certificate must be taken within one (1) year upon the Japan visa application.

Obtaining a copy of PSA Birth and Marriage certificate be usually cost at ₱340 per copy respectively. Please check here on how to obtain PSA copy for Birth Certificate.

A5. BANK CERTIFICATE

Bank Certificate can be obtain from your local Philippine bank’s (BPI, BDO, Security Bank etc) For me, I went to visit BDO branch to request a copy of Bank Certificate, then inform the customer service on the purpose which will be for my Japan tourist visa application. Do not forget to bring copy of your passbook /ATM and a valid ID to verify your identify. For BDO accounts, Bank Certificate can only be obtain to Branch where you have open your BDO account. Also take note that there will be ₱150 charge upon this request.

In terms on how much is the required amount or balance, we recommend to follow sample budget where by ₱10,000 per day expense in Japan travel. So if you intent to stay in Japan for 5 days, the minimum bank account balance should be at least ₱50,000.

A6. ITINERARY IN JAPAN

Schedule of stay or Itinerary is also one of the requirement of Japan Tourist Visa application. Schedule of stay can be obtain from the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines website Ministry of Japan website Below is the sample screenshot for our sample schedule of stay.

B. Required Documents from the Sponsor (Spouse)

If you are a housewife with no regular source of income, your spouse may sponsor your trip to Japan. The sponsor must provide documents that demonstrate their financial capacity and, when applicable, their relationship to you.

B1. GUARANTEE LETTER

The Guarantee letter is required upon application of Japan Tourist Visa whereby it indicate and states that your spouse will cover and sponsor your expenses in Japan. Under the seal section, make sure to affix the spouse signature.

B2. SPOUSE BANK CERTIFICATE OR BANK STATEMENT

The spouse personal certificate should show the balance of the last six months. If the Average Daily Balance (ADB) in the last six months is not indicated, bank statement must be submitted indicating the last six months transactions.

B3. SPOUSE INCOME TAX RETURN

The spouse Income tax certificate must be the latest Income Tax statement issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). The income tax return commonly known as Form 2316, must have signature of the Employer and Employee. For business owners, proof of actual payment of tax must be submitted in addition to the BIR Tax Payment Certificate Form (copy acceptable)

B4. CERTICATE OF EMPLOYMENT OR BUSINESS REGISTRATION

The spouse Employment Certificate must indicate the period of employment, salary and position. For
business owners, the government issued Certificate of Business Name Registration and
Mayor’s Permit from the City Hall from Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) must be submitted.

C. If Another Family Member Is Sponsoring You

If your parent, child, or another immediate family member is sponsoring your visit, you should submit documents proving your relationship along with the sponsor’s financial and employment documents.

Step 2: Prepare the Required Documents
Gather all the necessary documents, including your passport, completed visa application form, passport-sized photo, and any supporting documents required for your application. If your trip is sponsored, prepare your sponsor’s financial documents and proof of your relationship.

Step 3: Complete the Visa Application Form
Fill out the Japan visa application form carefully and ensure all information matches your passport and supporting documents. Double-check for errors before submitting your application.

Step 4: Submit Your Application Through an Accredited Agency
The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines accepts visa applications only through accredited travel agencies or the designated visa application center. Choose an accredited agency, submit your documents, and pay the applicable service or handling fee.

Step 5: Wait for Visa Processing
Officer in charge will provide the collection slip to process the visa. Once application has been forwarded to the Embassy of Japan, processing typically takes around 5 to 7 working days, although it may take longer if additional documents are requested or during peak travel seasons.\

How to Prove Financial Capacity for a Japan Tourist Visa

One of the important parts of a Japan tourist visa application is showing that you or your sponsor have enough financial resources to cover the cost of the trip. For housewives who do not have personal income, the financial capacity of the sponsor—usually a spouse or immediate family member—becomes an important part of the application. The goal is to demonstrate that the trip is financially realistic and that the applicant has sufficient support for transportation, accommodation, meals, and other travel expenses.

Japan Tourist Visa Processing Time

The processing time for a Japan tourist visa in the Philippines is typically around 5 to 7 working days after the Embassy of Japan receives your complete application from an accredited travel agency. Across the Philippines. various accredited travel agencies are located in major cities like Manila, Cebu and Davao. As of today, here are List of Accredited Travel Agencies.  However, processing times may vary depending on the volume of applications, peak travel seasons, and whether additional documents are required.

  • Submission to an accredited travel agency: 1 day
  • Agency review and forwarding to the Embassy:  1–2 working days
  • Embassy processing: 5–7 working days
  • Passport release and return: 1–2 working days

Processing times are estimates only and may be longer if additional documents are requested or during peak travel seasons. It is recommended to apply for your visa at least 3-months before your planned departure, especially if you intend to travel during busy periods such as the cherry blossom season, Golden Week, summer holidays, or the year-end holidays.

Visa Fees and Agency Service Charges

Philippine passport holders applying for a single-entry temporary visitor (tourist) visa to Japan for a stay of up to 90 days, the Embassy of Japan does not charge a visa fee. This visa remains free of charge (gratis) for eligible Filipino applicants. However, all applications must be submitted through the designated or accredited travel agency are required to pay the applicable service and handling fee.

    All details in your application should match your supporting documents. Differences in travel dates, employment information, addresses, or personal details may lead to questions about the credibility of your application.
  2. Insufficient Proof of Financial Capacity
    Applicants or their sponsors must demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to cover the cost of the trip. Weak financial documents, low account balances without explanation, or inconsistent financial records may raise concerns.
  3. Weak Evidence of Ties to the Philippines
    The Embassy may consider whether an applicant has sufficient reasons to return after the trip, such as family responsibilities, employment, business interests, or property ownership.
  4. Problems with the Sponsor’s Documents
    If your trip is sponsored, incomplete or inconsistent sponsor documents—such as missing bank certificates, employment documents, or proof of relationship—may affect the evaluation of your application.

Visa RESULTS

Japan Visa Applciation

Two weeks after the submission of my Japan visa application in the agency, they have sent me a text message and inform to visit the office for the collection of Passport. But the text message did not indicate the results whether it was approved or denied, since it was part of the agency’s policy not to provide the visa results.

So the next day I went to visit the agency for the collection of my passport, during my appointment I bring along the copy of collection slip. Collection  was located on the other room, and with surprise my visa application was APPROVED. I was happy that it was approve and now moving to the next thing, which is the preparation.
