WHERE IS VIENTIANE LAOS

Vientiane is geographically located on the northern border of Thailand and near the famous Mekong River. It is the capital country of Laos and surrounded by Asian countries like China, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia.

HOW TO GO VIENTIANE LAOS

If you are coming from Thailand like us, head to Bangkok Train Station and purchase a ticket to Nong Khai. It is recommended to purchase the ticket early if you plan to travel on the same day. We purchased the ticket early morning and were able to avail on the sleeper train. The distance between Bangkok to Vientiane is around 700 km, which will take 12 hours to travel by train.

WHAT TO SEE IN VIENTIANE LAOS

The best way to get around the city Vientiane is to hire local Tuk-Tuk.  It is the cheapest way to visit popular landmarks in Vientiane compare to renting a taxi or private car.

1. VISIT THE PATUXAI MONUMENT

Patuxai War Monument European Arch Design

Patuxai Monument also known as Victory Gate is a concrete arch located in the city center of Vientiane. The monument were built to dedicate the country to independence from France. This structure has paintings of gods and goddesses on its interior walls and ceilings. Climbing on the tower’s observation deck will have a panoramic view of the city.

2. CHECK THE PHA THAT LUANG

It is a gold-covered large Buddhist stupa in the center of the city of Vientiane. Stupa: It is a hemispherical structure that contains relics and it is used as a place of meditation for most Buddhists.

3. TAKE A SNAP AT THE THAT DAM

4 .EXPLORE HAW PHRA KEOW

"Haw Phra Kaew Museum Vientiane Laos"

It is one of Laos’ most highly venerated temples, now turned into a museum.  The outside of the museum is a garden with beautiful flowers and green grass.

5 .GLANCE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE

It is the official residence of the President of Laos, who, informally also holds the position of General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.

6 .WALK AT CHAO ANOVOUNG PARK

It is a scenic park located near the riverside of the famous Mekong river.  The park is the common place where locals go for a picnic, aside from that nightly markets and souvenir shops are available near the park.

FINAL THOUGHTS

It was a quick visit to Vientiane, exploring the things and what to see in the day tour activity. Vientiane Laos is a laid-back country where you can relax. A destination for travelers who wants to get rid of the usual city life. We walked around the city and observed Lao culture. The Lao people were friendly and accommodating. We visited a few temples and saw monks in orange robes everywhere. A small city that charms tourists where it is full of history and mystery. The city is developing and improving. We noticed a lot of local cafes and restaurants. It was a delight to see a growing city like Laos.
