Where Is Pine Tree Trail

Pine Tree Hill is located in the highlands of Fraser’s Hill, in the state of Pahang, Malaysia. It’s part of the Titiwangsa Range, covering the border between Selangor and Pahang. Fraser’s Hill has an altitude of 1,200 to 1,500 meters above sea level, which has a cooler weather and misty climate with temperature ranging from 18°C–25°C. It is well-known as highland resort with lush forests which is rich in biodiversity, and peaceful atmosphere.

How To Go Pine Tree Trail

To get to Pine Tree Hill, the most effective way is taking private transport where public transport is limited and ride-hailing services may not be available on the top for your return transport.

  • Private Transport
    From Kuala Lumpur, Pine Tree Hill is about 105 km with average time travel of 2.5 hours to reach. Normally visitors will take via Kuala Kubu Bharu (KKB), passing the town before Fraser Hill the road is winding, steep and narrow. It is recommended to drive carefully especially during rain or with fog.

Parking space are open to the public near the trailhead, but during weekend or public holidays it will be packed. Encourage to come early to avoid limited parking space.

Hiking Permit

A hiking permit is required to visit Pine Tree Hill in Fraser’s Hill, as it falls under forest reserve department in Pahang. Application can be made in person or online which will take 2 – 5 working days to process. Hiking without a permit can lead to fines or being turned back, and one (1) local guide is present to accompany maximum seven (7) hikers.

Best Time To Hike

The best months to hike Pine Tree Trail are during May – July where least rainfall and moderate temperatures will be experienced by hikers. It is advisable to start in early morning to avoid afternoon rain and give you enough time to complete the trail.

  • During wet season (October to February) the trail will be slippery and muddy due to rain especially around moss-covered roots and steep descents.

What To Expect On The Trails

TRAILHEAD

The trailhead is located near the end of Pine Tree Road (High Pines Road), just past the Telekom Malaysia bungalow and near Seri Pahang bungalow. The main entrance is clearly marked with signboard – Pine Tree Trail on the left side of the road.

  • The main route is roughly 5.5 km long one-way and takes 7–8 hours for a round trip, particularly for the more leisurely trekkers. Trail conditions are challenging, with undulating terrain, wooden and concrete steps, rope-assisted climbs, exposed roots and occasional rock-scrambling near the summit

The trail begins on a wide, well-trodden dirt path going uphill into dense forest. Initial section is shaded by tall trees with moss and ferns covering the ground. Shortly after the start, you’ll encounter some gentle slopes before the trail becomes steeper and more rugged.

The trail goes up and downs, with mixture of metal ladders and wood stairs which considered to be moderate hiking experience. The path is equipped with new ropes and about ladders making it more technical route, which usually love by season hikers for building stamina and endurance.

The summit has an elevation of 1,450 meters above sea level where it is one of the highest points around Fraser’s Hill. It is surrounded by dense forest of the Titiwangsa Range and panoramic views of Fraser’s Hill and the surrounding mountains. Hikers will be able to check the actual pine tree standing in the summit area. To reach the summit involves steep, sometimes slippery terrain, with rope sections and scrambling over rocks. Most of the hikers use the summit as a turnaround point, but some continue onward to the Twin Peak, which is slightly higher and offers better viewpoints.
